[New Car Launch] At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the all-new Lexus ES officially launched with one model priced at $44,103. As a generational update, the new ES features upgrades in exterior, interior, and intelligence. The initial powertrain is a 2.0L hybrid, with a pure electric version to follow later. Notably, the previous ES200 model will continue to be sold alongside the new ES, offering consumers more choices.
New Vehicle Highlights

Exterior: The new car continues the Clean Tech x Elegance design language from the LF-ZC concept. The front fascia downplays the spindle grille, replacing it with a closed grille and trapezoidal air intake. The hybrid version adds a long air intake above the grille to improve airflow. The headlights feature a lightning-like shape that catches the eye, and the fog lamp area uses a two-tone finish, showing Lexus's commitment to a younger look.

Side profile: The two-tone design on the fenders and side skirts creates a diffuser-like effect, complemented by sharp waistlines that convey a sporty stance. Dimensions: length/width/height are 5140/1920/1555 mm (hybrid version), with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. The hybrid version rides on 18-inch wheels, while the pure electric version will use 21-inch wheels.

Rear: The youthful styling continues with a fastback shape that suits current tastes. A sharp crease on the trunk lid creates a subtle ducktail spoiler, below which sits a full-width light bar. The taillights retain aerodynamic elements on the sides, and the center features an illuminated brand logo. The rear bumper uses layered lines to focus visual weight and enhance sportiness.

Interior: The new Lexus ES retains bamboo-wood trim with a translucent finish to showcase Eastern luxury aesthetics. A 14-inch central touchscreen is standard, with an optional 14-inch passenger screen. Notably, many physical buttons have been replaced by touch-sensitive controls, giving the cabin a clean look. The car introduces a bamboo-inspired fragrance system for the first time, with five custom scents all featuring bamboo notes.

Features: The new car offers driver seat memory, front seat heating and ventilation, power-adjustable steering wheel, steering wheel heating, HUD, rear sunshades, front wireless charging, Mark Levinson audio, L2 driver assistance, and a small sunroof (the pure electric version gets a variable-color panoramic glass roof).

Powertrain: The new Lexus ES will offer hybrid and pure electric versions. The hybrid uses a 2.0L engine paired with a high-output electric motor. The engine produces 112 kW, the motor 83 kW, for a combined system output of 145 kW, mated to an E-CVT transmission.
Editor's Review
The all-new ES is a key generational update for Lexus, balancing tradition and breakthrough amid electrification and intelligence trends. Overall, the new ES remains a typical Japanese luxury car, a hard-to-avoid choice for buyers who value stability, reliability, and understatement. However, in today's competitive market, its conservatism stands out. Its intelligent features and driver assistance still lag behind Chinese brands, and its relatively firm pricing hurts cost-effectiveness. In an era of rapid electrification and tech evolution, this car suits consumers who stick to traditional luxury perceptions. To attract younger buyers and truly compete in the mainstream, Lexus clearly needs bolder changes.
