Original New Car Review: At the end of March, the Leapmotor A10 officially launched, offering four variants with a price range of $9,676 to $12,765. Notably, current purchases come with benefits including a launch gift worth $1,424, a two-year zero-interest finance policy, and four lifetime free warranties. As the first model in Leapmotor's 2026 lineup, what are the highlights of the A10? And which configuration offers the best value?

In terms of styling, the Leapmotor A10 adopts the "Technology Natural Aesthetics 2.0" design language. The distinctive "Xixi" headlights and "Haha" taillights not only give a lively and fashionable impression but also enhance recognizability. The front fascia features a trapezoidal air intake and fog light design that adds a sporty touch. The side profile can be described as "compact and robust," with blackened D-pillars creating a floating roof effect. Additionally, the 18-inch sport wheels (valued at $294) are offered free for a limited time. The car is available in six color options, with three custom exterior colors—Seaweed Green, Acorn Brown, and Berry Blue (valued at $294 each)—also free for a limited time.

Inside, despite a top-tier price of just over $11,765, the car is equipped with numerous tech features. A 14.6-inch 2.5K ultra-clear touchscreen paired with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster aligns with mainstream new energy vehicle design, powered by an 8295 chip. Current purchases include lifetime free basic data and two years of free entertainment data. Below the central touchscreen, a floating IP Bar allows for customization with accessories like ambient lighting fragrance, safety hammer, or humidifier. For comfort, the car offers premium features such as front seat heating and steering wheel heating. If there's a drawback, it could benefit from adjustable front headrests, rear air vents, and a center headrest in the second row.

The Leapmotor A10 will feature a lidar system and an SA8650 assisted driving chip, which is uncommon in its class. Particularly beneficial for female drivers and beginners, the car supports full-scenario assisted driving from parking spot to parking spot, including highway navigation and memory parking. For active safety, it uses a "9 horizontal, 7 vertical, 4 strong ring" cage structure, with key areas reinforced with aerospace-grade hot-formed steel (2000 MPa). Reportedly, the roof can withstand 3.1 times its own weight in compression, which should alleviate concerns about "small car fragility."

The Leapmotor A10 is positioned as a pure-electric compact SUV, with dimensions of 4270/1810/1635 mm and a wheelbase of 2605 mm. A headroom of 979 mm ensures comfort even during long rides, and 34 thoughtful storage spaces combined with cloud-comfort seats are commendable. Surprisingly, the rear includes a small table attached to the driver's seatback, while the trunk offers a 106-liter underfloor storage compartment. The rear seat cushions can be flipped up at a 60° angle to free up more space. Overall, the car's biggest highlight in terms of space is its flexibility, maximizing utility within a compact footprint.

For powertrain, the car is equipped with a single motor, available in high and low power versions with maximum outputs of 90 kW and 70 kW respectively, and a peak torque of 150 Nm. Battery options include 39.8 kWh and 53 kWh capacities, offering ranges of 403 km and 505 km. Notably, the official claim is a 16-minute charge from 30% to 80%. An extended-range version in the future would be a welcome addition.

Based on configuration and pricing, the mid-low 403 Enjoy variant is recommended. Compared to the entry-level Comfort variant, an additional $588 brings significant upgrades: front and rear head airbags, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, thanks to an added front-facing monocular camera and an upgrade from 4 to 12 ultrasonic radars, achieving Level 2 driving assistance. Importantly, these features represent substantial value. Comfort additions include a power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, vanity mirror, front seat heating, power-adjustable driver's seat, rear small table, and 256-color ambient lighting, making the $588 investment highly worthwhile. Compared to the higher 505 Enjoy variant, the main difference is an extra 102 km of range, plus minor features like steering wheel heating, but the $1,029 price increase may not be necessary. The top-tier 505 Lidar variant is the intelligent driving version, costing an additional $1,471—this depends on your needs and budget, but for pure value, it can be skipped.

Summary: From its pricing and positioning, the Leapmotor A10's main competitors are mainstream new energy models like the Geely Galaxy Star Wish and BYD Yuan UP. The Geely Galaxy Star Wish has monthly sales nearing 40,000 units and strong consumer reputation, and the Leapmotor A10 aims to capture a share of this segment with its more affordable pricing. Compared to the BYD Yuan UP, the A10 holds advantages in tech features and range. Additionally, Leapmotor plans to launch new models such as the D19 and D99 this year.
