BYD's Updated Seal 05 DM-i and Seal 05 EV Set for April 20 Launch

BYD has announced that the updated Seal 05 DM-i plug-in hybrid and Seal 05 EV will launch on April 20. Both models will adopt a unified exterior design.

The new Seal 05 does not completely follow the design of the current Seal 05 EV, but the overall style is similar. In detail, the front bumper has been optimized with enlarged air intakes on both sides and a larger lower grille opening. It is also equipped with an active grille shutter.

Regarding dimensions, the new Seal 05 measures 4620/1860/1630 mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2770 mm. These dimensions represent a change compared to the current Seal 05 EV. The rear has been completely redesigned, featuring a more dynamic taillight design that retains its wave-like pattern. The new rear bumper showcases a crossover style.

The interior of the new model continues the design of the current Seal 05 EV. It features the Oceanic Rhythm cockpit with a wraparound layout, an adaptive rotating central touchscreen, retained physical buttons, a column-mounted gear selector, and a wireless charging panel below the center console.

For powertrains, the DM-i continues with a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid system based on the fifth-generation DM technology. According to filings with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the engine has a maximum power of 74 kW, and the drive motor has a maximum power of 120 kW. Two battery capacities were filed: 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh, corresponding to WLTC pure-electric ranges of 102 km and 151/155 km, respectively.

The EV variant's power has been increased compared to the current model. The low-power version has a maximum power of 200 kW, and the high-power version has a maximum power of 240 kW. Both are single rear-mounted motors.
